Promoting Leadership - Setting Priorities – Developing Capacity
The biggest annual event committed to professional development and excellence for the Local Government Administrators and their guests was held in Yellowknife from October 25 – 27. This was a record year for registration and participation of over 40 registered participants including 32 delegates from 28 communities.
Participants were excited about the sessions that were offered including the key-note session of Dr. David Siegel from the Brock University who talked about the leadership qualities required of Local Government Administrators who typically provide leadership in three directions: elected officials, a community government’s administrative staff and the public.
Another highlight was a panel discussion on using social media in community governments allowing exchange of ideas, exploring best practices and success stories.
Local Government Administrators were also engaged with the presenters from MACA, ENR, the Land and Water Boards, and the NWTAC who provided updates on initiatives, project implementation, upcoming events and changes to policies and legislation. Please check the AGM 2011“Presentation” section presentation decks and contact information.
The third day was committed to workshops with the recognized speaker and facilitator, Gordon McIntosh from the LGL Institute in British Columbia. Participants were very engaged in a morning workshop on “Priority Setting in Local Government” and an afternoon workshop on reviewing the service capacity of a community government. The afternoon was a bit shortened as Members took the opportunity to witness the swearing-in ceremony of new cabinet Ministers and celebrate the opening of the first session of the 17th Legislative Assembly with their elected representatives in the Assembly.
LGANT thanks all his partners and sponsors for making this event possible and a success!
