The LGANT Award of Excellence is given to a Local Government Administrator in the Northwest Territories employed by a local community government that has displayed outstanding commitment, dedication and public service and is held in high regard by his / her profession and community.
Nominees for the LGANT Recognition of Local Government Administrator in the NWT shall have demonstrated outstanding achievement in the following areas:
Christina Gaudet who is the Senior Administrative Officer for the Charter Community of Deline is this year’s winner of this award of excellence. Here are some highlights of her nomination:
“Christina has been the SAO for almost six years. Born and raised in Deline, she worked previously for the Deline Land Corporation, one of the land claims organizations under the Sahtu Dene and Metis Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement. She worked her way up from Finance Clerk to positions with more and more authority through a combination of training and hard work. Since becoming SAO, she has continued to build her skills through learning opportunities on a range of topics through the School of Community Government.
Christina has demonstrated leadership, innovation and achievement in her collaboration with the Deline First Nation (DFN) and the Deline Land Corporation (DLC) in order to prepare for the implementation of self-government. Collaborating with the Band Manager and the Chief Administrative Officer from those organizations, as well as the Deline Self Government team and other local organization managers worked to establish the Deline Transition Team (DTT). The DTT has worked to compare and align the operating realities of the three existing local governing institutions in the community in order to practically prepare for self-government implementation. Since its creation in 2009, DTT works with the negotiating team and considers the operational implications that the Final Self Government Agreement could bring.
As SAO, Christina strives to be a role model in the community – when it comes to community clean up, she is hands on, literally, involved in picking up garbage in order to send the message that everyone has a role to play in making Deline a more beautiful place and taking pride in their community. As a parent, she is also very committed to family activities and regularly gets involved in organizing Family Fun Night. Christina credits her colleagues at the DFN and the DLC, as well as her Council, in collaborating in different ways to make good things happen for the community. She is quick to give credit to others and share any recognition for work well done.
Christina is respected in the community for her commitment and hard work. She strives to be a positive role model and recognises that, as SAO, all eyes are on her and she is held to a high standard.”
In recognition of this award Christina will receive a $1,000 dollar bursary towards professional development and travel subsidy to the NWTAC AGM where she will be recognized for her excellent contributions in the presence of elected officials.
