Fire Protection

A School of Community Government program to train community fire-fighters and to promote awareness of fire protection responsibilities at the community level.

What is the purpose of the Fire Protection Program?

To train community fire-fighters, fire officers and community governments and administrators in the skills necessary to ensure and promote fire protection in the communities.

What will I learn?

Training is offered in the areas of:

  • Introductory Fire-Fighting: Defensive
  • Introductory Fire-Fighting: Offensive 1, 2, 3
  • Council & SAO Orientation
  • Fire Service Instructor and Evaluator
  • Command Officer

What are the objectives of the Fire Protection program?

To provide community fire-fighters and community government employees with the skills to adequately perform the roles of fire safety officials.

To enhance the skills of public safety employees so that they can more effectively contribute to the community development process.

Why Should I Take the Fire Protection Program?

Upon completion of the Fire Protection program, you will have more knowledge and be able to better serve your community.

What Do Participants receive upon completion?

Participants who successfully complete training based on approved standards receive the 1001 National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Level I Certificate awarded by the Alberta Fire Training School. This is both a nationally and internationally accepted certification.

Fire Officer Training (FOTP):  FOTP 100 aand 200 are prerequisites to Fire Officer training and can be taken via correspondence.  Contact your Assistant Fire Marshal.
