Fort McPherson is located in the Mackenzie Delta; this beautiful Gwich’in community has a population of about 800. The community is located 120 kilometers south of Inuvik on the east bank of the Peel River, 38 kilometers from the junction of the Peel and Mackenzie Rivers.
The Incorporated Hamlet of Fort McPherson is inviting applications for the position of Senior Administrative Officer. The application must have a strong background in municipal administration, accounting, financial management and proven success as an effective communicator.
The Senior Administrative Officer reports to the Mayor and Council. The candidate will coordinate all affairs of the Incorporated Hamlet of Fort McPherson. The incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of municipal administration, including management of human resources, operations, and projects in accordance with the Hamlets Act, Hamlet Council By-Laws and internal policies.
REQUIREMENTS:
The incumbent must be familiar with statutory requirements of the Hamlets Act and other legislation (ie: Elections Act, Conflict of Interest Act). The Senior Administrative Officer should have a working knowledge of municipal government operations, statutes, by-laws and policy making. The applicant must demonstrate strong leadership, problem solving, interpersonal skills and capacity to manage human resources in a fair manner. A working knowledge of ACCPAC is a definite asset. A job offer is contingent upon satisfactory criminal record check.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Senior Administrative Officer should have five (5) years of management experience preferably in a municipal government setting, a degree in public administration, political science or business administration. They must also be able to work in a cross cultural environment. Equivalencies will be considered.
The salary will commensurate with experience. The Hamlet of Fort McPherson offers a comprehensive benefits package including a Northern Allowance of $12,008, subsidized housing and relocation assistance.
