The Tsiigehtchic Charter Community has an imme­diate opening for a Finance Manager. This is a full time, indeterminate position. 

Reporting to the Senior Administrative Officer (SAO), the Finance Manager is responsible for planning, directing and controlling the financial and administrative functions for the municipality by following municipal/band policies and procedures and in accordance with Federal and Territorial legislation. 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • providing financial advice and guidance to the SAO and Council
  • participating in strategic financial planning
  • researching, preparing and submitting and moni­toring annual budgets
  • preparing detailed monthly reports on financial and administrative matters
  • attending meetings and making presentations to Council
  • managing accounting and financial systems and maintaining full and accurate             accounting records
  • ensuring finances are managed according to leg­islation, policies and generally             accepted account­ing principles 

The successful candidate should have the following required skills and knowledge:

  • computer skills including the ability to operate and manage ACCPAC, Simply             Accounting, Windows, including payroll and human resource information systems, spreadsheet and word processing programs at a highly proficient level
  • a recognized accounting designation supple­mented by 3 to 5 years experience in             municipal/ band finance and administration is desired
  • knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and preparation of             financial state­ments
  • understanding of relevant municipal/band legisla­tion, policies and procedures
  • effective written and oral communication skills
  • an understanding of the northern cultural and political environment

A recognized accounting designation supplement­ed by 3 to 5 years experience in municipal/band finance and administrative is desired. 

Salary is negotiable and includes subsidized hous­ing. Further details and a job description are avail­able upon request.
