Community Budget Consultations

Council is seeking community inoput as they prepare to update the Integrated Community Sustainablity Plan as well as the Capital Plan and Operating Budget for 2012/13. All residents are welcome to attend and provide input into this important process.

Meeting will run from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM with Soup and Sandwiches  for lunch and snacks in the afternoon.

Students in Aklavik and Ottawa learn different cultures

A select group of Aklavik students will be zip-lining, boating and hiking in and around the nation's capital next week as part of a student exchange that will earn them a high school tourism course credit.

Bruneau thinking big

Judoka Mason Bruneau from Hay River is on his way to the National Junior Judo Championships in Lethbridge, Alta., which begins on July 2. Bruneau will be competing in the U-17 boys division and has his sights set very high, said his mother, Yvette Bruneau.

"He's been telling me he's going to be number one," she said. "That's all he's been saying."

Whati to Host 2011 Regional Tlicho Gathering

The 7th Tlicho Annual Gathering will be held in in Whati from July 5th, 6th and 7th.

 

Hay River to get new rec centre

Yellowknife, N.W.T., - Hay River's aging Don Stewart Recreation Centre will be replaced in the next few years.

Mayor Kelly Schofield said the facility, which has been around for over 30 years, needs to be replaced in the next five to 10 years.

He said they still have to do a lot of planning, like figuring out where the new centre should be located.

Hay River to link trail system

The town of Hay River wants to expand its trail system.

The director of Recreation and Community Services for the town, Ross DeBoer, says they want to link all of the paths together.
